{"id":1081,"date":"2019-07-16T08:08:28","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T07:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spbr.sheffieldpsc.org.uk\/?page_id=1081"},"modified":"2019-07-16T08:14:32","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T07:14:32","slug":"palestine-runs-report-2019","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/spbr.org.uk\/index.php\/palestine-runs-report-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"West Bank runs report 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Small Park BIG Run is proud to have run in Sheffield, together with seven different runs across Palestine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There&nbsp;were&nbsp;four&nbsp;runs in the&nbsp;Gaza Strip<\/strong>, in Khan&nbsp;Younis,&nbsp;Nusseirat,&nbsp;Khaza\u2019a&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jabalia&nbsp;refugee camp.&nbsp; Three runs took place in the<strong>&nbsp;West Bank<\/strong>,&nbsp;in Nablus, Ramallah and Bethlehem,<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>all&nbsp;running under a wonderful logo made by&nbsp;Wala\u2019a&nbsp;from Nablus,&nbsp;<em>Run for Freedom<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"525\" height=\"194\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/runforfreedom.png?resize=525%2C194\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/runforfreedom.png?w=762&amp;ssl=1 762w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/runforfreedom.png?resize=300%2C111&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/nablus.png?resize=348%2C212\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1089\" width=\"348\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/nablus.png?w=464&amp;ssl=1 464w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/nablus.png?resize=300%2C183&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 348px) 100vw, 348px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Nablus Run<\/strong>&nbsp;was organised by&nbsp;<em>Run for Freedom.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em>Waala\u2019a<em>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<\/em>Run for Freedom said \u2018we are so excited about this event, this is our first time to go from local to global, we have arranged a lot of events in Palestine, but this is our first joint action\u2019.&nbsp; (Nearly as excited as SPBR!).&nbsp; They organised a 2K fun run inside the park in Nablus with lots of activities for the children.&nbsp; They produced special&nbsp;T shirts linking SPBR with their Run for Freedom.&nbsp;&nbsp;Wala\u2019a&nbsp;said after the run, they were so happy and now they are thinking of a family race that everyone can share next year too!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/smallrunbigwall.png?resize=214%2C151\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1087\" width=\"214\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/smallrunbigwall.png?w=560&amp;ssl=1 560w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/smallrunbigwall.png?resize=300%2C213&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem&nbsp;<\/em>run<\/strong> was for all ages, running from the Israeli checkpoint (Bethlehem 300) to Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem. The runners ran in&nbsp;<em>Run for Freedom&nbsp;<\/em>t shirts,&nbsp;with an image showing&nbsp;the runners breaking through the apartheid wall.<em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em>They built a model separation wall in the Refugee Camp to break through on the final lap of the run, and&nbsp;had&nbsp;banners&nbsp;<em>No to the Deal of the Century.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em>The run was at&nbsp;the same time as the Lord Mayor set off the SPBR Fun Run&nbsp;in&nbsp;Meersbrook&nbsp;Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anas&nbsp;from Aida Youth Centre, who organised the run,&nbsp;sent SPBR some photos and&nbsp;said&nbsp;the run was amazing and that they had a good time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And in Ramallah<\/strong>, around 240 participants participated in the run \u2018<strong>From Sheffield to Palestine, Together We Run for Justice and Dignity\u2019. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"525\" height=\"229\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/ramallah1.png?resize=525%2C229\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1082\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/ramallah1.png?w=979&amp;ssl=1 979w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/ramallah1.png?resize=300%2C131&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/ramallah1.png?resize=768%2C335&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;majority of&nbsp;runners were children, from&nbsp;five&nbsp;refugee&nbsp;camps in the central West Bank: Al-Jalazoun,&nbsp;Birziet, Qalandia, Al-&nbsp;Am&#8217;ari&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ein&nbsp;Areek.&nbsp;The main challenge the run encountered was the&nbsp;late arrival of the bus coming from Qalandia Refugee Camp due to the traffic congestion at the nearby Israeli checkpoint.&nbsp;The event started with opening speeches in both Arabic and English&nbsp;\u2013 the Head of the Executive Office of the Refugees in the West Bank, delivered the speech in Arabic, and the speech in English was delivered by Ms.&nbsp;Sadeel&nbsp;Sahraya, a high school student from&nbsp;Birziet&nbsp;Refugee Camp.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following the run, the participants received the certificate signed by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.
