To drink, most citizens depend on imported, bottled water. Desalination plants are\u00a0poorly maintained because of difficulties in obtaining spare parts. These factors exacerbate behaviours that will tend to deplete the aquifer that sits under the Gaza and forms the basis of its water supply.<\/p>\n<p>As the aquifer drains, salty sea water seeps in and with it sewage and chemical pollution further degrading the supply.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_249\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-249\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Gaza_scarcity_water2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-249\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Gaza_scarcity_water2.jpg?resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Gaza_scarcity_water2.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Gaza_scarcity_water2.jpg?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/spbr.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Gaza_scarcity_water2.jpg?w=780&amp;ssl=1 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-249\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Collecting water is a daily activity for most people<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile in the West Bank, in the occupied territories, there are inequalities of water supply that reflect the aggressive approach taken by Israeli colonial settlers and the army that protects them, \u00a0to dismantling Palestinian civil life.<\/p>\n<p>Water use by colonial\u00a0settlers is 4 times that of Palestinians in the occupied land reflects the relative poverty of Palestinian people.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1967, Israel has prevented access to the Jordan River supply by Palestinians and supply of water to Palestinians by the Israeli water company, is subject to strict control.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, settlements are built on high land, water is gathered and prevented from reaching\u00a0into the lower reaches of hills and supplying Palestinian villages.
