{"id":2890,"date":"2025-06-10T10:36:49","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T09:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spbr.org.uk\/?p=2890"},"modified":"2025-06-12T08:31:54","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T07:31:54","slug":"sumud-a-breakfast-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spbr.org.uk\/index.php\/2025\/06\/10\/sumud-a-breakfast-discussion\/","title":{"rendered":"Sumud &#8211; a breakfast discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Sunday, June 22nd, we will be hosting a Palestinian breakfast with spBR organisers Jawad and Jonny, joined by Ruba, who is from the West Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will be leading a discussion on &#8216;Sumud&#8217; &#8211; an all-encompassing term which refers to the resilience and steadfastness of Palestinian people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is more than simply a reference term. It\u2019s losing family and still saying, \u201cIf I lose more, I will never give up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sumud is refusing to be dehumanised. It\u2019s shouting the truth when others stay silent. It\u2019s saying loudly: \u201cI have the right to be angry, I have the right to say \u2018fxxk occupation\u2019, and I have the right to never surrender.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sumud is when you teach your children to grow up strong \u2014 to never forget the uncles and aunts who were slaughtered on live TV while the world did nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s keeping their memory alive, turning pain into strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s being tired, heartbroken, full of rage \u2014 but saying with pride:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were born strong. We will die strong.
