small park BIG SING FAQS

When is the big sing and how long will it last?
About midday on Sunday 18th June as part of the end celebration of small park BIG RUN. For the #smallparkBIGSING we will meet at 11am, to get in place and start rehearsing at 11.15. The celebrations for the end of the 24-hour event start at 12, with our massed sing being live-streamed to Gaza at around 12.20. (If you can’t make it for the rehearsal, do turn up anyway.)

Will there be toilets available?
There are toilets available in the Walled Garden. This is up a hill from the singing spot and
unfortunately they are not wheelchair-accessible.

Where are we meeting?
The event takes place in beautiful Meersbrook Park, just off Chesterfield Road.
If you are coming to sing, please use the Brook Road entrance by Meersbrook Hall.

The postcode of the houses across the road is S8 9FH. Please walk, cycle or come by public transport if you can. Buses 20, 24, 25, 43, 44 and X17 stop at Heeley Retail Park, less than 5 minutes’ walk away.

If you come by car we recommend that you park at Heeley Retail Park and walk up from there.

Can I get something to eat and drink?
There is a tea and cake stall in the Walled Garden – relying on cake being donated by
volunteers! So if you are a keen baker, or know one, please bring something along. If you can portion it up ready for sale that would be even better. Vegan and gluten-free options are always popular.

There are several cafés on Chesterfield Road – Café des Amis, Create Coffee, the Tramshed and Mandala to name a few.

Is there a dress code?
Wear what you feel happy and comfortable in – and we encourage everyone to wear one or more of the Palestinian colours of black, white, green and red. This is an outdoor event, so dress for the weather – whatever that may be.

Do I have to stand up the whole time?
We won’t be providing chairs for singers. Please bring a camping chair or stool if you would
like to sit down for some or all of the time. We will be standing on a gentle grass slope and
we will prioritise the flatter areas for people with chairs. If you have a mobility scooter or
wheelchair we will allocate you a space at the front, on level tarmac.

Do I have to learn the song by heart?
Yes please! We want everyone to be looking at the audience, and the cameras, not at their
phone or a bit of paper. It’s a short song and you can do it.

Where can i sign up and find the song?
Listen to Gerry & the Pacemakers singing the song here.

Sign up here to sing if you are coming as an individual (not part of a choir group). Why not sign up here for the run too?

Contact Liz Nicholas on ‘liz.kittiwake at gmail.com‘ if you need more information, a score or a recording of the song.

Can I join in if I cannot be in the park?
If you cannot be in the park, you can join in on zoom (https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82081994538?pwd=QWovSXM4MG5Tc3IzNlB1UTRtRzYyZz09) or facebook live (link to be posted nearer the time).
